What Mimi Does
Mimi lets you listen to the current Chrome tab as translated audio through a local Mac helper. You choose a target language in the Chrome toolbar popup and press Start Translation. Mimi then captures audio from the current user-opened Chrome tab, sends it to the local Mimi server on your Mac, and the local server may send live audio to Gemini Live Translate using your local Gemini API key.
Mimi is not a subtitle generator, video downloader, finished-video export tool, ad product, login service, or managed cloud API service.
Data Mimi Processes
- Current tab audio, only after you press Start Translation.
- Extension UI preferences such as target language and volume settings.
- Local helper status, local usage counters, and local safety-limit settings.
- Local diagnostic summaries when you explicitly collect a debug bundle.
Mimi does not create subtitle files, transcript archives, downloaded videos, finished dubbed videos, or translated-audio caches. General-user diagnostics and WAV capture are off by default.
Gemini API Key
Your Gemini API key is configured through Mimi setup on the Mac side. The Gemini API key is not stored in the Chrome extension. Do not paste the key into GitHub, chat, screenshots, Chrome extension files, logs, or public documents.
Data Sharing
When you start translation, current tab audio may be sent from the Chrome extension to the local Mimi server on your Mac. The local server may send live audio to Gemini Live Translate to provide translated audio.
Mimi does not sell data. Mimi does not use data for advertising. Mimi does not share data with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics services.
Local Storage
The Chrome extension stores local UI preferences such as selected target language and volume values. The Mac helper stores local setup/status data and local usage counters needed for the Mimi safety limit.
Local debug bundles are explicit and redacted. They should not include API key values, private URLs, raw transcripts, or personal content.
User Controls
You can start or stop translation from the Chrome toolbar popup. You can change the local Mimi safety limit and reset local usage through Mimi setup/status tools. You can remove Mimi by uninstalling the Chrome extension and removing the local Mac helper.
